I became very depressed and it didn't help that my marriage was not doing good… which prompted us to seek help from a counselor that was referred to us. We had heard that he was a Christian and altho professionally trained considered his practice a ministry and himself a lay counselor so the fee was low. One day at a time, just like everyone else. I was in a horrible marriage for 20 years, and, looking back, I do not know how I got through that. One day at a time, the same way I do the single thing. I can’t say that one is worse than the other, only that if you’re going to live your life being upset over your circumstances, it doesn’t really matter what your circumstances are.
I can say that while I am lonely at times, all in all, I have now and have had, a pretty good life. And I am no more lonely now than I was in my marriage. If it were not for the kids, I would have died of loneliness in that marriage. Now that the kids have moved some three thousand miles away, I have become very self-sufficient. Not always easy, especially for owners who also work. A bad month in bookings and you’ve got to paint a smile. Dealing with a thief in the staff on a busy night when you are trying to keep an eye on the till truly takes a lot of self-control. Say you’re running a tight roster in the kitchen and three of your commis and kitchen porters are missing because the drug squad kicked in their doors last night.
